Ex-Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai, family get EC notices Under Delhi SIR
Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and three family members have received Election Commission notices under Delhi's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The notices seek replies and documents from electors whose current details could not be linked to the previous revision or showed discrepancies.
Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and three members of her family have been served notices by the Election Commission under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi.
Desai, her husband Prakash Desai, son Advocate Mike Desai and daughter-in-law Sakshi Desai received notices under the Unmapped with Last SIR category.
The notices form part of the electoral roll verification exercise being conducted across Delhi.
Several serving and retired IAS officers are among those who have received notices over “discrepancies and no mapping” during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister Ajay Kumar Sood, Health Secretary Punya Salila, Fisheries Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi, his wife and serving Ex-servicemen Welfare Secretary Sukriti Likhi, Fertiliser Secretary Rajat Kumar Mishra and Land Resources Secretary Narendra Bhooshan are among those listed as “unmapped with the Last SIR”.
Some senior officials received notices over discrepancies in their names or family details. These include Expenditure Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, while Comptroller and Auditor General K Sanjay Murthy, a former IAS officer, received a notice over a “parent name mismatch”.
CPM MP John Brittas’s wife Sheba Britas and son Anand also have received Election Commission notices under Delhi’s SIR. Sheba was flagged for a “self name mismatch”, while Anand’s notice cites a “parent name mismatch”, possibly linked to discrepancies in Sheba’s filing.
Under the SIR process, electors whose current details cannot be linked with the electoral roll from the previous revision, or whose records show certain discrepancies, are being asked to submit replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer.
WHAT DOES UNMAPPED WITH LAST SIR MEAN?
An elector listed as Unmapped with Last SIR is one whose current electoral roll details can not be linked to the corresponding records in the electoral roll of the last revision.
The Election Commission has said notices are being issued to electors who could not be linked with the previous roll, as well as those whose linkage contains logical discrepancies. Receiving such a notice does not by itself mean that an elector has been declared ineligible to vote.
The concerned ERO examines the response and documents submitted by the elector before deciding the case. The disposal of notices in the current exercise is scheduled to be completed by October 29, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.
KEJRIWAL FAMILY ALSO GETS NOTICES
The development comes days after former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and four members of his family were served notices under the same Unmapped with Last SIR category.
Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, father Gobind Ram Kejriwal, mother Gita Devi and 25-year-old son Pulkit Kejriwal are among voters whose records have been flagged for verification. The five members of the family are among 110 electors in a specific segment of Assembly Constituency 40, which covers the New Delhi constituency.
The New Delhi Electoral Registration Officer subsequently said the Enumeration Forms submitted by Kejriwal and his family members did not contain complete details required to establish their linkage with the electoral rolls of the last revision in their respective states.
REKHA GUPTA’S ENTRY VALIDATED AFTER NOTICE
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also received a notice during the SIR process. Her case, however, involved an age-related discrepancy in her electoral details rather than the Unmapped with Last SIR category.
A physical verification was conducted by the designated Booth Level Officer, following which the Election Commission said Gupta’s documents and electoral details had been verified. Her entry has been validated and will be included in the final electoral roll for Assembly Constituency 14 (Shalimar Bagh), scheduled to be published on November 4.
OVER 31 LAKH ELECTORS SERVED NOTICES
The Delhi Election Commission has said that notices are being issued as part of the wider claims and objections process.
Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar said the list includes both unmapped electors and voters whose details have been mapped to the previous roll but contain discrepancies such as differences in names or dates of birth.
As of Saturday, notices had been sent to 31,63,930 of around 33 lakh electors identified for verification across Delhi. Electors receiving notices have to submit their replies and required documents to the concerned ERO.
Electoral roll officials are also conducting camps to hear claims and objections, with the number of camps to be increased if required.
The SIR exercise involved door-to-door verification of electors in Delhi.
The process is aimed at checking electoral records and giving voters an opportunity to establish their eligibility before the final electoral roll is published.
