SCBA Seeks CJI's Urgent Intervention Against Detention Of Advocates Protesting Outside Supreme Court

Chief Justice of India's urgent intervention sought over the detention of several Senior Advocates and advocates, including women advocates.

Supreme Court Bar Association has written to the Chief Justice of India, seeking his urgent intervention over the detention of several Senior Advocates and advocates, including women advocates, who were peacefully protesting outside the Supreme Court area today, through the alleged use of excessive police force.

SCBA has passed a resolution expressing its grave concern and condemning the reported action.

A letter addressed by the Secretary SCBA Pragya Baghel, CJI Surya Kant has been asked to intervene immediately with the concerned authorities to ascertain the whereabouts and safety of the detained advocates, ensure their access to legal assistance, and secure the immediate release of those against whom there are no lawful grounds for detention.

"We also request that the reported use of force be examined and appropriate action taken in accordance with law," the letter adds.

In an X post, SCBA President Pradeep Rai has also condemned the detention of Supreme Court advocates from their chambers calling it deeply disturbing.

"We are mentioning this urgently before the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India. Arbitrary detention and intimidation of advocates will not be tolerated. I demand immediate release of the lawyers," he added.
